Fair Housing Center Moving to Remote Work Amid Community Health Concerns

CDC/ Alissa Eckert, MS; Dan Higgins, MAMS

The health of our community is a priority to all of us at the Fair Housing Center for Rights & Research, so we must take proactive steps to ensure the health and safety of our staff, clients, and neighbors. In an effort to decrease the spread of COVID-19 and keep our community healthy, The Fair Housing Center has made the decision for all staff to work remotely, with our office being closed until further notice. While folks will not be able to connect directly with a staff member when calling our office during this time, a message can be left on our voicemail for staff members to get back in touch. All staff will still be available via email, and will be checking voicemails regularly while working remotely. For more information on how to contact The Fair Housing Center, please visit www.thehousingcenter.org/about-us/contact-us/.

As information and instructions from public health officials are quickly evolving, we will be sure to inform the public of any potential updates or changes to our services or operations.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) offers the following guidelines to protect and prepare communities during the Coronavirus outbreak:

People can help protect themselves from respiratory illness with everyday preventive actions:

  • Avoid close contact with people who are sick.
  • Avoid touching your eyes, nose, and mouth with unwashed hands.
  • Wash your hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds. Use an alcohol-based hand sanitizer that contains at least 60% alcohol if soap and water are not available.

If you are sick, to keep from spreading respiratory illness to others, you should:

  • Stay home when you are sick.
  • Cover your cough or sneeze with a tissue, then throw the tissue in the trash.
  • Clean and disinfect frequently touched objects and surfaces.
