Description of Volunteer Position The Housing Center is seeking volunteers to join our 2012 Development Advisory Committee. The members of the Development Advisory Committee will assist the Housing Center staff and Board in coordinating the organization’s 2012 fundraising and resource development activities, including the planning and facilitating of 3 to 4 special events. Depending upon the volunteer’s strengths and interests, responsibilities may include assisting with the development of marketing materials; soliciting local businesses for donations, in-kind contributions and/or corporate sponsorships; scheduling and coordinating event activities (i.e. speakers, entertainment); ticket sales and event promotion; event set up and clean up; and other support as needed. Shared Value to Committee Members & to the Housing Center Involvement with the Development Advisory Committee is an excellent opportunity for young nonprofit professionals and/or those new to the nonprofit sector to expand their skills set and to network with other professionals while making a difference in the Greater Cleveland Community. Volunteers will learn about and gain exposure to a grassroots nonprofit social justice organization. He/she will learn elements of fundraising, nonprofit revenue and resource development as well as special events planning. Volunteers offer the Housing Center a fresh perspective, enable the organization to reach new audiences and help broaden the impact of our work in the community. Recommended Volunteer Attributes We are seeking volunteers who are friendly, energetic, reliable and enthusiastic about nonprofit service. Volunteers must have basic computer skills, including the ability to use Word and Excel, to send/receive e-mail and to conduct Internet research. He/she must communicate well verbally and in writing and must be conscientious and detail-oriented. Schedule Regular monthly meetings and/or phone conferences will be scheduled based on the Committee members’ availability. Additional working meetings will be scheduled as needed. A 12-month commitment to the Committee is preferred, but assistance with short-term projects will also be considered.
